Waiting in Wednesday: JOYRIDE by Anna Banks

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating. My first waiting on Wednesday for 2015 is JOYRIDE by Anna Banks.

About the book:
Who says opposites don't attract?
It's been several years since Carly Vega's parents were deported. Carly lives with her older brother, studies hard, and works the graveyard shift at a convenience store to earn enough to bring her parents back from Mexico.

Arden Moss used to be the star quarterback at school. He used to date popular blondes and have fun pranking with his older sister. But now all that's changed, and Arden needs a new accomplice. Especially one his father, the town sheriff, will disapprove.

All Carly wants, at first, is to stay under the radar and do what her family expects. All Arden wants is tonot do what his family expects. When their paths cross, they each realize they've been living according to the wishes of others. Carly and Arden's journey toward their true hearts - and one another-- is funny, romantic, and sometimes harsh. Just like real life.

I feel like this book will be my next best friend. I love light and funny contemporary reads. I’ve read the first three chapters in an excerpt from @FierceReads and I totally loved it already. June 2 is too far! I badly want it now. Anyway good news you guys, Anna sent me signed bookmarks to giveaway!! Just enter on the rafflecopter form below to join!

Book Review: Firefight by Brandon Sanderson

Title: Firefight
Series: The Reckoners Series
Author: Brandon Sanderson
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Date Published: January 6, 2015

SUCH EPICNESS IN ONE BOOK, THIS IS NOT A PUN.

I’ve waited for so long of this book like I’ve already turned into a skeleton while waiting kind of long. Brandon Sanderson, man do I admire this author’s wit and researching powers. (Teach me your ways, Sir). And he’s effortlessly funny too.

I love Sci-Fi books so intriguing and mesmerizing. Here in Firefight, The Reckoners continue in their mission to eradicate and overthrow the monsters of the world, who has super freaking amazing powers. David and Prof are like the same on Steelheart, such determination and faith. Their stunts and plans never failed to amaze me in every page. The plot twists and surprises are all epic.

What I love the most in this book is that I love the development of the relationship of Megan and David. (Their love-story is my type of a love story.) Sweet yet somewhat not. If you read Steelheart you’ll get what I mean. The trust and faith in each other have developed and it conquered their innermost fears.

Megan is my fave. She’s just so badass and fierce and awesome and *throws in all the best adjectives*. I’ve learned more about her and her abilities. From the start I have believed in Megan, I will until the end. I shall convince you now then to read this book because of the epic metaphors and similes thrown in by David. He kinda sucked in metaphors in the first book, now similes, I wonder if in the next he’ll mess up personification too and hyperbole. Lol. So If you need a good laugh and a mind-blowing read, go forth and read The Reckoner Series.

Book Review: Lailah by Nikki Kelly

Title: Lailah
Series: The Styclar Series
Author: Nikki Kelly
Publisher: Feiwel and Friends
Date Published: October 7, 2014

GUYS. IT’S REALLY HARD TO WRITE A REVIEW FOR A BOOK YOU LOVED SO MUCH. THERE ARE JUST NO WORDS. NO THOUGHTS YOU COULD EVEN WRITE. THERE ARE JUST FEELINGS. FEELINGS HERE, FEELINGS THERE, FEELINGS EVERYWHERE. OR LIKE CONCEAL, DON’T FEEL, DON’T LET THEM KNOW.

Sorry, I had to start out with caps. I haven’t read a book this good in a long time. Pardon me. I’m struggling to write here, I need help. Give me a moment to collect my thoughts. There. I’m good now. You see, this book got me like, “I NEED THE HARDCOVER ASAP” kind of good. So I know I got you intrigued now, yeah? Like, “ Hmmmnn, how is that book good tell me! Tell me!” Gotcha.

This isn’t your typical vampire story, no sir, ma’am. This is more of a light against dark, heaven against hell, human against inhuman self, kind of story. It was indeed my mistake in putting off this book that long, maybe it was that I kind of thought, “Vampires? Yeah, well, typical.” but dude was I so wrong in putting it off to read later.

What did I love in this book? Definitely everything. From each single word, to the mental pictures it conveys, to the jokes, to the tension, down to the even the punctuations. I love the way it was written, a little bit poetic and the setting is on London. I love the pacing, the first three chapters were medium paced and then it gradually built up. I love books that make me love and hate characters so much.
I love Ruadhan, Cessie, and Gabriel sooooo much in contrast I hate Hanora, Brooke and Jonah soooo much too (sorry to Team Jonahs out there, peace out). I love the heroine, she’s fierce and independent and a bit naughty (which is my kind of girls). Prepare for the explosive stuff here. Continue reading if you want to but beware, fangirl feels ahead.

GABRIEL. I JUST LOVE GABRIEL SO MUCH GUYS I NEED HELP I THINK I NEED TO GET TO REHABILITATION CENTER BECAUSE I’M SO ADDICTED TO HIM. I KNOW HE CANT BE REAL BUT WHO CARES, I LOVE HIM. Here are just some reasons why:

He is light-haired. He’s golden-haired. Blonde. I’m attracted to light-haired guys I don’t even know why
He has bue-eyes. I’m usually onto green-eyed guys but since Lai has green eyes, it seems a perfect pair for his blue ones.
He is gorgeous. Yeah, yeah most are but he’s divinely gorgeous.
HE IS SWEET AND CARING AND SOOTHING. I have a weakness for sweet guys, I’ll pretty much die a diabetic but who cares?
HE IS A GENTLEMAN. I trust that all girls like a gentleman, otherwise I don’t know.
HE IS AN ANGEL. I’m into Angels. Enough said. Who aren’t though?
HE HAS SUPER COOL ABILITIES. I’m shutting up. No spoilers for you.
HE HAS DIMPLES. (DIMPLES. I JUST NEED TO REPEAT IT FOR YOU. BOY DIMPLES ALWAYS GETS ME EVERYTIME, EVEN IF A GUY WOULD BE EVIL IF HE HAS DIMPLES ILL BE DRAWN TO HIM)

I JUST CAN’T WAIT TO GET MORE OF HIM IN THE NEXT BOOK!

If those ranting above don’t get you to read Lailah I don’t even know how to convince you. Trust me when I recommend books you won’t regret it. I wish I could’ve read this book as soon as it was published. Don’t make the mistake of putting it off too. I found a new favorite book, hope you would too.

Series Review: The Splintered Series

Title: Splintered, Unhinged, Ensnared
Series: The Splintered Series
Author: A. G. Howard
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
Date Published: January 6, 2015

Lewis Caroll once wrote a tale which everyone of at this time knows. The girl in blue and yellow dress, with a ribbon on her hair; that’s Alice Lidell of Alice in Wonderland.

Most fantasy books focus on fey, magic, dragons, mythical creatures and faeries. Not most books are renditions of the stories we once loved as young children. Yes there are some re-telling of fairy tales and classics but it’s a different thing to re-write them, to warp the story the other way around inside-out.

The Splintered Series is, should I say the modern and most acceptable alternate reality of what could have really happened in Wonderland than most people know. It’ll make you believe things that this story is the real one not what Lewis Caroll once wrote. It’s a story of a girl who is a descendant of Alice herself, and an adventure and battle to wonderland and for wonderland.

Enough of the formalization, you guys. Wait a moment, I still can’t process that these one of my favorite series has again ended. I mean, it’s always bittersweet to read the last book of every series. Well, what could I do?

*Internally screaming because of that Ensnared ending* It couldn’t have been more beautiful. I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful ending. I wasn’t expecting the ending and epilogue to be that way, not much books have these perfect ending that leaves all the reader pleased and content. I want to spoil you guys but naaaah, lol read it for yourself. Although know that I am very much Team Morpheus, Ensnared made appreciate, Jeb (the other lead guy in the series) even for a bit. I must say, Alyssa Gardner is one quite of a lucky butterfly. I wanna be her. I’m kidding. (Though okay, maybe for a day or so) *laughs*

Anyway I love this series so much. It’s not mainstream and overrated and it’s just plain and simply perfect for those of you guys looking for an adventure like little Alice did down the rabbit hole. I love the tension, the competition, and the struggles and twist the series brought. And oh, try this series for the covers, they’re gorgeous. They’ll look good in your shelf, trust me. They’ll even look good on you for a selfie. So check this series out, add it on your TBR and keep calm, cause were all mad here for Wonderland.

LOVE FOR EBOOKS BLOG POST

Hi! Happy new year! if you know me, you know that i hate ebooks. i just cannot bear to read in my tablet because... i don't really know why i just don't want to. but when my family, including me, had a vacation somewhere (december 26 and 27), an overnight stay at a hotel and i didn't want to bring my book along (the rithmatist by brandon sanderson that time) because we will be swimming, and you know, i cannot afford for my book to be destroyed with my wet clothes! so i just depended on my tablet. I downloaded The Rithmatist eBook and carry my tablet along with me instead of my paperback physical copy! of course, i was doubtful at first because i am not really a fan of eBooks (idk why) but i carry on. nightime fell that time and i read in my tablet and OMYGUDNES it felt awesome, i don't know i think this time i focused more attention to it and it focused more to me as well? haha! the next day, i finished the book in my tablet and i felt guilty because i hate (don't like) ebooks/ereaders that much and now i freaking love them on how they are so practical! and also i felt guilty because I unsealed my book and didn't afford to open it for me to read, instead I read it in my tablet! I read eBooks on my tablet occasionally and didn'f feel like it often, though i can finish a book through an eReader and feel meh about it, but this is the first time i fell in love with it and now i cannot stop myself! if you are me you can feel my struggle! comment down your experiences with eBooks / eReaders!
The time when i fell in love with eBooks! (that's a cheesy choice of vocabulary but who cares? that's how i felt)

I finished the Marbury Lens earlier this day and tonight i'll be reading The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick on my tablet!
