            It’s kind of difficult to really write a book review when you’ve read the book about three weeks ago, but here I am now again breaking the blog hiatus because I don’t want the blog getting idle. So another series review, from a series by Jen Armentrout. It feels I had waited for forever for the last book and it feels like I have just read the first book yesterday. If you’d ask me why I love JLAs books, it’ll take me forever counting off the reasons. But JLA writes the best paranormal books you can find in YA.

            Let’s have the overview of the series in case, you, my lovely reader, haven’t read the series. It’s about a half-breed, gargoyle and human (or so she thought), saving the world against what might have been the end of it. Torn between two hot guys, one her childhood crush-who she grew up with and a sexy dark, sarcastic guy. So how would she save the world, being some kind of a freak, mix-breed? Read the series.

            Ohhhh how I had missed Roth so very much. And I certainly voted for him on the dark elements poll on who Layla should end up with. I had been very confident on the matter; I just hoped no one would die. #TeamRoth to my very last breath.

            So here in the last book, we can read that Layla had woman-ed up to deal with the two guys who pulled on her heart strings, I’m glad that she did that early in the book. And we get to see her accept who she is and fully develop her abilities for her own good and the many. We also get to meet the cutie Thumper and Robin. It was honestly my first time to cry on a love scene-here on this book-I had a rough day that time and I just teared up reading it. Beware though, have your heart ready for the breaking because of Bambi. That hurts, JLA. Thank you so much.

            The last book was all that I have expected and what I haven’t expected both at the same time.  Oh, and I have my perfect fancast for Roth, Bo Develius. Hmm, what do you guys think?

            You haven’t read a YA about gargoyles have you? Well, start with this one. You will be amazed how JLA would bury you into the world she created, just for you. This one’s my favorite book series by Jennifer and I’m so stoked on what she’s going to write next.

Series Review: Penryn and the End of Days by Susan Ee

You have no idea how long I waited for this book to come out. It felt like it took forever but then I’ve just read the conclusion in about 4 straight hours-Oops.

I ship no ship as hard as I ship RAFFRYN (Raffe + Penryn).

Penryn is the strongest, boldest, fiercest and most loyal female character I’ve ever encountered. I love her to the ends of the world. Penryn is the girl that doesn’t defend on some guy for her survival or her feelings. She lives with that pure fire in her that drives her to do the things she wanted just the way she wants it. No matter what the situation throws at her she doesn’t back down. She just has to keep fighting for what it’s worth. Even if her mom is mad, her sister has turned to a monster, the guy-the archangel she loves keep on denying her and pushing her away, SHE IS STILL THERE. NO MATTER WHAT. That makes her loyalty unwavering. She had to step up as a leader even if it’s not within her. She’s a natural in everything. She makes the world a fiercer place.

Raffe on the other hand is Raffe. Raffe is Raffe. Wait okay. Raffe is HOT. Still shirtless in all that archangel glory but in this book he is coming to realize that he is drawn to Penryn no matter how he resists it. He might say he can’t it can’t be those kind of whatever but we all know he’s been into her ever since that kiss in the aerie. RIGHT? His actions show very much that he protects Penryn and he can’t let her go. They are both the fires that keep each other burning. In this book finally the sexual tension ceased. Finally. But just kisses aren’t enough! Who agrees with me? Let’s write a petition to Susan to write more about Raffe and Penryn to ease the frustration. I AM SO NOT SATISFIED WITH JUST KISSES. NOW THAT THEY’RE TOGETHER WE NEED MORE. LOL.

Susan Ee’s writing is so beautiful the world stops when you read it. The fantasy soaks you up to an entire different level of high. One of a kind fantasy stuff. Her concept here that combines the apocalypse and angels is very original and awesome. Even if I needed more of Raffryn scenes in the last book, everything is perfect I couldn’t have asked for a better ending. Raffe and Penryn for life. I just wish Susan will write more YA even if it’s not Raffe and Peryn any longer.

If you haven’t read this trilogy well you’re so missing out love. There is no just right Romance and Fantasy like the Angelfall Series. Favorite Series ever. Trust my favorites. I have taste. Angelfall movie soon! I CAN’T WAIT. JUST IMAGINE THE CASTING. THE MOVIE. EVERYTHING.

I really like reading Post-Apolyptic dystopian books. Why? Because of course, it gives me an idea of what I may or may not encounter one of these days. These books are better than any survival guide you can even get at those stupid bookstores out there. Post-apocalypic books gives a lot of possibilities of what might happen in the future but all their theme is survival to the fittest and staying sane and human.

The world is ending and the cause of it are green, ugly, and slimy creatures. My first thought was that I was reading an apocalypse book with aliens. But of course, I'm wrong. They're not aliens. They're some kind of mutated things that is caused by some biological warfare. These creatures feeds on protein and they are most potent during daytime. Yeah, weird right? Daytime? Shouldn't they be like afraid of the sun or something? (Read this book and you'll eventually know why). Amy calls the creatures “Them” and “They”.

Amy is left there alone in her house when the end of the world started. You could've thought she died then eventually but she manages to survive. Her mom and dad is nowhere and didn't came back for her. But at least they left her a house that could stand against these greenie monsters. After surviving a few weeks, months maybe, she now calls the world, Before and After. Before the creatures and After the creatures. She learned how to adapt. Most importantly she learned how to survive. She goes out of her house to scavenge food, clothing and books. (I really love the scavenging books though, I'd love to do that too) Then she meets Baby.

Baby is what Amy named the little 4 year old girl she saw and picked-up at a grocery store. Just wow right? A 4 year-old little girl surviving on her own against Them. When Amy took the little kid home, she easily got attached to her. Of course she would, she'd been starving to have human contact for months and she found someone. Baby and Amy grew nearer to each other like sisters. They learned how to live in the After. They even made a silent way of communication through a modified sign-language. (Which is very awesome, I'd like to learn it too.)

Within three years surviving in the After, they soon find out they weren't the only surviving humans here on earth. They learned about a society. A new society in the After that in first sight you can tell it's the best after the end, but every society has it's flaws. Amy could not keep up with that so she leaves to find someplace safer for a new home.

In 'In The End', the last book of the duology, Baby is in danger. Amy is willing to give everything, even her life to Baby. And only someone from another colony/society in the After could help her to get her back. In here she deals with the rough way of people living in the After. She battled with what the After had made of the people to put it simply. She cannot trust anyone and she meets new people. She fought off many more monsters—the green ones and monsters with human faces.

Wait is there no romance in this series? Of course it does. In “In the End” Amy is torn between Rice – the handsome geek scientist guy and Jacks – the rough and rugged gorgeous boy in another place. (By the way I'm Team Rice) This is what I like with Amy, she easily makes decisions, not like any other girls that loves to run around the circle. If you read the last book, you'll know who she is really into. Even in post-apocalyptic times, love prevails. There is always hope and there is no place like home.

In the After is fast-paced and a very easy read. (I finished up the 2 books in just 1 day) That's how good this series is. This series is best recommended to those who have read The Maze Runner, Across The Universe and Warm Bodies. These books are a mixed of those books, or at least you can associate it to. The main character is fearless, and brave. Even a lot braver than the guys here. That's what I love about girl protagonists. We girls don't need your saving, we can survive and adapt like you guys could. This series is a must read. It teaches us that not because a person is not of your blood it doesn't mean you can't consider them as family, you can't love them even more than yourself. That is what love does. You just cannot give up love, not even for the whole world itself.

I don't know about you but if I can't talk you into reading this, I'm not sure you're in your right mind. This is an underrated and unmainstream series that you readers can get your hands on. These books are so good, I can assure you that. So if you haven't read In The After, do something and read it now. And well, wait for the conclusion In The End, once it'll be out on July, you guys run over to the bookstore and read onwards!

My thoughts:

It has been so long since I posted my first review of Of Poseidon and Of Triton. I came to know of these series in twitter (like as always) and said let me try this and I wasn't disappointed. I don't about those who have read these books but I swear I love them so much. I've always been a fan of Little Mermaid (hashtag no shame)-so it fascinates me to read something about half-human, half-fish beings of the ocean called Syrena.

The Syrena Legacy or Syrena series is a very nice read that's just light and can make you smile everytime. When you read this you won't help but just enjoy every single page, those hilarious jokes and sweet, swoon-worthy moments. The overall writing style is nice. The story is fast-paced that you can never stop to turn the pages until eventually (you didn't even know) you have finished the book already. There won't ever be a part of it where you'll get bored, I promise. I don't think I've ever laughed out loud from a series this much before. The characters are so jovial and alive, they we're all just like playful teens.

You'll fall in love with Emma McIntosh from the first page of Of Poseidon. She's witty, funny, and a natural beauty. I mean with all the violet eyes and blond glory who wouldn't? Every reaction she had was like I would've reacted that way in situations like that. The fact that she often got shy and her temper was one of the things I adored most about her. (She's like me except for the funny part, that's why)

And then...there's Galen. Galen Forza, full syrena, triton royal, 6 pack-abs. (drools) He has this aura of strength and loyalty and sexiness, that all girls can fell for. You would instantly know like a reflex that him and Emma are perfect for each other. Also there's Toraf, a cute little funk syrena so hilarious he could make you pee laughing. Swoon-worthy and drool-worthy guys you say? Read this! They'll know how to make your hearts all melty.

Once you read this I swear there would be no way to put it down after you picked it up. You'll get everything from the first book to the last, laughter, hotness, cuteness, and heartbreak. It's not just light and fun all books ought to have so painful moments. But seriously, what is better than a book that triggers a full range of emotion? Nothing!

In the last book of the installment the story plot has improved a lot. There's a lot to of action, a lot of cause to fight, to have a sense of something more complicated. If on the earlier books it was focused on the character development, now is the time for the story developments, you will meet here new characters, new villains and a whole new lot of spice in the last book. If you think Emma is an outcast and have no hope to fit in, well.. you should read the last book.

Somehow Anna managed to fit in all the characters to have a vital role and she did it well though I missed a lot of Toraf and Rayna's (Galen's sister) cuteness and hilariousness. They we're on the last few chapters but at least they're there. Emma seems to have became a bit serious in her life and that now she acts very grown-up and serious. I missed her funny comments and comebacks. Emma and Galen had fully accepted and finally understood what they truly are and what their role in their kingdoms is. You know that moment when everything in your mind is like a mental puzzle and everything clicks into place. It felt like it when I finished reading Of Neptune.

You know the best thing about reading is when you have not only a book but a series that literally blew you away! Of Poseidon to Of Neptune are such beautiful books that everybody needs (emphasis on the needs) to read. And just look at the gorgeous covers, why wouldn't you want to have them sitting on your shelves? But these books have not just incredible covers, oh no! This series is a mind-freakin-blowing wonderment. Why should you read this series? Well see it for yourself. Don't talk to me yet unless you have added them on your TBR list or read all of the books. Hope I make myself clear with that.

Kind of bittersweet to say, but most definitely yes.

I want to start this series review with a fun fact about myself : I'm a sucker for royal love stories, books, movies, real life and all. I didn't have fairy tale books to read when I was a kid, no but I became fascinated by the idea of royalties when I watched those childish Disney movies. And it didn't end there. I'm still in love with the idea of it. Kings, Queens, Princes and Princesses and castles and crowns. Isn't it nice to think about them? Do you even wonder how it must have felt like to be a princess? Wearing a crown on your head and ruling people and all of them addressing you, “Your grace/Your highness/Your majesty”? I think I might have spent thinking half a lifetime about this. I'm pretty sure it's beyond amazing but there are lot of consequences on everything you want to do or need to do and you bear a certain weight on your shoulders for the people.

As I've said I am fond of royal tales so I pick The Selection up to read it. You don't possibly wonder now why I just got the book and paid and run (I mean ride) home to go and devour it immediately. Look at those pretty covers. Anyway let's get to the story: This isn't your ordinary fairy tale or royal love story. It's a dystopian young-adult book actually. It's setting is actually a hundred years from now and that the whole US had been turned into a monarchy. It's not so far from reality it could happen, and the world would be plunged back into the age of kings in the past. This is the mood reading you'll get reading this series. United states now had become the kingdom of Illea. But the difference in all the kingdoms we know to Illea is that it has Castes like in India. Society is ranked from 1 to 8. One being the highest and Eight being the lowest. The Ones are the royal family and the Eights are the beggars.

If you've ever went to Sunday School you've probably heard of Queen Esther's story. This series is actually based from it Kiera had said. Every time the Prince of Illea is of the right age there is a royal competition held for all the ladies which come from different castes of the kingdom to win the Prince's heart.

America Singer or simply Mer is a Five so she's pretty much a middle class we can say, she's a singer and a talented musician. She was chosen to be a part of the Selection. The thing about her is that she's not the graceful princess here in the story but a strong-willed undettered character that does whatever she thinks is right even if it's going against her parents, the citizens of Illea or even the King himself. But the thing about America that I sometimes did not appreciate is her decisions when it comes to love, she always frets that she'd hurt anyone of the guys (The Prince and The Guard) not thinking that she's using both of them in the process. It took her 3 books to finally make her choice. She just couldn't let go of her past and can't deal with the responsibilities with the present. But still America proved in the last book that she can make her decisions well and that she can handle the responsibilities of being a queen.

Prince Maxon Calix Schreave is a One, the firstborn of the king and queen, is the one choosing from these 16 girls his Princess. He is a true prince outwardly and inwardly. The king expects a lot from him, but little did the king know that he's not like him but rather more like his mother. The king pressures him to be more like him but he can never do it. Maxon is a better version of him. Maxon is everything the king is not. He's the overall perfect picture of a prince. Charming, sweet, kind, handsome, careful, gentle and royal. Everything about him is just the prince all girls are dreaming of . You can't find any bad or not perfect thing about him (You just can't) If you ever have one, tell me. Yes, he might not give all the girls the words they want to hear but he treats them right and equally and he respects them all. He's not like some of the YA guys who takes chances on girls. (He didn't even do that even if he could, even if the girl permits him to.) That's how gentleman he is. He waits for the right time for everything.

All his words would just make you fall in love with him a bit deeper than the last thing he said. He'll make you swoon and and make you just melt into a goo with everything he does. To those guys out there you should totally read this book and study Maxonology 101 : How to make girls swoon, What to give to girls to adore you, etc. He has a hard work choosing from all these beautiful girls in beautiful gowns, how can he? But deep inside we know even from the first book who he loves and adores. He may flirt with other girls but he has his heart in the hands of only one girl. And the thing I adore most about him is that even though a lot of girls had literally handed them his heart, he never broke any but gave it back carefully and sincerely. He has everything but is not boastful of what he has but he's rather humble. And the way he loves just make me sigh and think that the world is unfair for not making him a real person.

“Oh I know. I don't intend on giving you things. Well, I do intend on giving you things but that's not what I mean. I'm going to love you more than any man has ever loved a woman, more than you ever dreamed you could be loved. I promise you that.” - Prince Maxon (The One)

How can you cope with these kind of words? And these:

“Break my heart. Break it a thousand times if you like. It was only ever yours to break anyway. I'll love you to my very last breath. Every beat of my heart is yours. I don't want to die without you knowing that...” Prince Maxon (The One)

OH ALL THE FEELINGS HE JUST GIVES ME. ALL THE FEELINGS.

I remember myself when I read the first book saying “I'll marry Maxon, anytime of day.” And I still do. If I spot a guy like him, I'll marry the guy immediately. No second thoughts. My love for Prince Maxon knows no boundaries. I love him so much it pains me to think that he's not real because he should be.

The character development in the series is easy yet unpredictable. There's Marlee, Celeste, Kriss, Elise, Lucy and Aspen. I never did like Aspen all throughout the series. I'm sorry to those Aspen fans there. How could I, if he's that aggressive and selfish? No, thank you, I'll pass. Death is also inevitable in every book you read. So don't get surprised if some die in the last book. I'm warning you now. Don't get attached to anyone in the last book. A particular death in there hurt me and I'm still recovering from it. The conclusion is enthralling. You'll be at the edge of your sits yet you will beg for more. (I don't know about you but I think the Epilogue is quite a cliffhanger). Petition for a sequel novella!

All the books are fast-paced. I've read each of them in less than a day. I've read each book in just one sitting. It's that easy and light to read. If you're a fast reader you can probably read the series less than two days, tops. These series is suited for all ages, it's beautiful and romantic and sweet. Well, someday I'd make my daughter (if i'll ever have one who I'll name Liraz) read this series or I can use it as a bedtime story to her, the thought makes me smile. I will not in a lifetime forget that I've read a story so royally beautiful as this.

My thoughts:

I don't actually remember how I came across this series but I'm glad I did, anyway. Perhaps on twitter. First thing that I love about these books are that they are light reads and medium-paced. We can rarely find books like these. A lot are slow-paced and too fast-paced but the Sweet Series is just right. Easily understood, not too many metaphors and drama and out of the world vocab but just enough to find the things readers are looking for in a certain book, like romance, love, adventure, pain and friendship. This series has the perfect concotion of all those.

And rarely too do we find YA protagonist or lead characters that are kind, nice and has a very good heart. My friend told me once that someone isn't into Sweet Evil because the lead girl (Anna Whitt) is so kind that she cannot stomach it and cannot believe that she can be really into this level of good, she said it's too unrealistic. But she's wrong and she doesn't understand because she hasn't read until the last page. Ana is the perfect role model of girls. She is sweet, kind, nice, and good. If the memory serves me right, in Sweet Peril she saw an old beggar woman in the street and she gave all her money to her to the last cent, she may have also given her coat also even if it's snowing and freezing cold. She's the kind of girl that doesn't party, that doesn't rebel against her mom. She isn't the one who can plant hate in her heart. She has the best character of all fictional girls I've ever read about and because of that I'll remember her forever. But as we go on with the books we can see how Anna has changed outwardly but her heart is left untouched by corruption and has stayed to be pure. She is beautiful as any blonde girls in YA literature but her character will make you adore her even more and her faith to God, everyone that loves her and herself is unwavering is very inspiring. She may be on a constant struggle and on a certain battle with herself as she is a half demon-half angel but she handles it well. She actually is on top of my kindest YA heroines.

As every book has their hot, swoon-worthy, beyond gorgeous male leads, Kaidan Rowe is not just your typical type. He's hott. Yes, H-O-T-T, with the hot extra T on hot. Actually Kai is some kind of a prince of lust. Yes, lust. So don't even wonder how many girls he's been with. He may not be the most perfect guy when it comes to his character but soon later in the series he had learned how to redeem himself. Everything about him is to die for, that perfect face, British accent and skills-drummer and composer skills to be specific. But the best thing you can adore about him is his loyalty and love to Anna amidst the struggle of his real nature.

Romance between two very different people is hard to write about but Wendy Higgins pulled it off so well. Not like the others that confuses you like you don't even know what's happening to the world. Kai is all the opposite to Anna, if Anna is that close to being a saint, Kai is the very opposite. Their love is like being against the world but they worked it out. And you'll love them both for fighting and continue struggling for their love and other else they are fighting for.

A book wouldn't be as good if there are no good supporting characters and this series won't fail you. There's Blake, a half-Filipino guy! Yes, Filipino, you don't even know how much I'm proud of him (just because I'm Filipino also lol). He's my boy. I just love him so much, you will too and oh he'll make you jealous. And there are my super twins! Gin and Marna, perfect Brit girls which makes them perfect girl friends. (All the boys must have been drooling over them.) Kope, dimple guy, cute and trustworthy, plus Zinia a shy sweet girl. And then also there's Jay and Veronica, sweet human friends, they can't be left out, in every fantasy book pure humans shouldn't be left out that's a must.

I know you've read a lot of YA books about Nephilims, I know, trust me but this book is an exceptional one. It'll teach you a lot of things about having a pure heart and fighting for everyone's sake even for the one's who wronged you. As Wendy wrote, “Love is the element worth existing for.” I'll rephrase that “Books are the only things worth existing for.” And the Sweet Series is one of them.
