The Body Electric Review

Title: The Body Electric
Author: Beth Revis
Publication Date: October 6, 2014
Publisher: Scripturient Books

All my thanks to Netgalley for providing me an ARC copy of the book.

Synopsis.

The future world is at peace.p

Ella Shepherd has dedicated her life to using her unique gift—the ability to enter people’s dreams and memories using technology developed by her mother—to help others relive their happy memories.

But not all is at it seems.

Ella starts seeing impossible things—images of her dead father, warnings of who she cannot trust. Her government recruits her to spy on a rebel group, using her ability to experience—and influence—the memories of traitors. But the leader of the rebels claims they used to be in love—even though Ella’s never met him before in her life. Which can only mean one thing…

Someone’s altered her memory.

Ella’s gift is enough to overthrow a corrupt government or crush a growing rebel group. She is the key to stopping a war she didn’t even know was happening. But if someone else has been inside Ella’s head, she cannot trust her own memories, thoughts, or feelings.

So who can she trust?

I've always loved futuristic techs in movies and books. It feels like I'm living it and it is so advanced you'll be more than amazed.

The Body Electric is not your regular Dystopian book. It's a mind-blowing awe-inspiring super-futuristic book. I requested this book because I love Beth Revis, she, swear to all the books, writes great inter-galactic and futuristic author there ever was. If you haven't read Across the Universe Series, you totally should. Add it on your TBR list NOW, yes as in open a new tab on your computer and whatever reading site you are logged in to add in on your TBR. Have you added it yet? Now you may proceed on reading this review.

So first thing, I struggled on reading the first quarter half of the book because of distractions and the slow pace, but then the plot's flow gradually got better over time. Slowly it progressed to medium paced to fast paced and that's what I like about Beth's writing, you never know when the plot's climax is and when to expect if there's a plot twist.

The plot was, as I said, Dystopian. Involving Androids and robots and bots and programs, new world civilization, government, terrorism, war, family and love. Beth's book got all those elements in one futuristic dystopian book and I didn't know how she got to fit them all in one book but it was totally amazing how she did it. There isn't the lacking element on this book, it was plot-wise  brilliant and a must read.

The characters of this book, Ella and Jack will be unforgettable like all the characters Beth has written. Ella is the picture of courage, to have faith in one self and others, and to fight for what she believes in. Jackie quite the mysterious characters, you should read the book so you'll know.Amazing cover too. Not much books has a green cover but The Body Electric rocked it. I know @IceyBooks designed it and it is in fact quite cool.

Honestly, I loved this book because in this book you'll know that the physical body doesn't define humanity but what's in the soul and the heart. humanity isn't measured of what you are but what you believe in and what you fight for and what you fight for is love. Again for the second time around Beth gripped my heart in this book and I'll never forget about it as long as I live.

Fave Quote: "Science can make a heart beat, but it can't make it race.

THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN REVIEW!!

Sypnosis:

The Five People You Meet in Heaven is a Novel by Mitch Albom. It follows the life and death of a maintenance man named Eddie. In a heroic attempt to save a little girl from being killed by an amusement park ride that is about to fall, Eddie is killed and sent to heaven, where he encounters five people who significantly impacted him while he was alive. It was published in 2003 by Hyperion and remained on the New York Times Bestseller list for 95 weeks.

What i thought:

1st person Eddie met in heaven: the BLUE MAN which was labeled as a freak and works at Ruby Pier, particularly at the freak show with the lesson that death is random, you don't know when, you don't know where, it just happens. death is somehow a string to other people's lives, intersection of one's lives it is. the BLUE MAN taught Eddie that  your death is not worthless because you get to be attached to an individual that is destined to be. you get me? you might be dead but the outcome of your death might be good to other people. so if you think that your death is nonsense then think again because you'll bring good results to others with your death.

2nd person Eddi meth in heaven: the CAPTAIN of Eddie when he was still in service of being a soldier. The CAPTAIN taught  Eddie the value of sacrifice. that you will be killed, no matter how but God will know when because when he sees an event that you'll be dead in a way that it will be a sacrifice to others and they will be thankful for, God knows. you must not be angry of God when you're dead because who knows, you might have saved another person's life when you are killed. The art of sacrifice is explained more further to Eddie because Eddie himself is killed but saved a little girl's life. as well as the captain, he was killed to save his platoon.

3rd person Eddie met in heaven: RUBY, a woman who have a husband and her husband, when he was sick, got to join Eddie's father in the hospital. they don't know each other but they are connected in a way that Eddie's father is involved. RUBY taught the lesson of Forgiveness. Eddie despise his father because of the father's abusive acts and got Eddie a dark childhood, but RUBY said he needed to forgive his father. even though Eddie's father is so evil to him because he didn't know the things he has done. maybe, when Eddie is not around, his father has done a good thing which led to Eddie's happiness without knowing that it was made by his father. you never know that things other people has done. with anger and fear lounging in you, you don't get to notice other people's good doing because you are busy noticing the bad doings of them. you must learn to forgive no matter how evil the person is to you, because who knows? you might be dead in a minute.

4th person Eddie Met in heaven: MARGARUITE, Eddie's wife. who taught him the lesson of endurance of love. when MARGARUITE died, Eddie is broke (of course) he stopped functioning, as in. he stopped doing his routines, and he stopped being Eddie. but MARGARUITE told him that whenever your loved one is dead, you must not let sorrow take over you, because there is still memories. memories will be you connection. memories with your lost loved one will be the thing that will keep you together. memories is like a fine pearl, you must take care of it because it feels good to have a precious thing you get to keep. these memories will kit your lives together, hence that you will still be together.

5th Person Eddie met in Heaven: TALA, a girl that was killed in a war in the Philippines (proud yeah!) she was burned. and the burning was caused by the platoon of Eddie. TALA taught the lesson of your purpose in life. in Eddie's situation, he was destined to work as a maintenance at Ruby Pier, he was destined to keep the children happy. you must learn that when you are dead, you must not feel discouraged, because when you are killed, it only means that your task given by God is done. and you finished it so Good that you make others happy with the doings you have done when you are still alive.

RATING:

The five people you meet in heaven is an affective inspirational book. Albom is just a veteran, in general, to make people enlighten and to make them feel happy. characters here are just so unique and they are well attached to other characters which really made sense and awed me! the characters are also knitted with the story and really completes the story. i cannot imagine one of them not included in the book. plot is original and so captivating, hello? its heaven! who cannot grab this book and devour it?! with just reading the blurb you can make people read it! i also love the intervals of chapters/ because almost every chapter break it has either a flashback of Eddie's birthdays or the reality with people dealing with Eddie's death. the intervals just contributes so much to the story and feeds its readers of information. despite of the outnumbered pages of the book i am really filled with the leading character's life. so much of Eddie in just 200 pages which i really commend!

with those in mind, i will give this book a massive 5 stars! yes 5 stars! because it deserves it. hands down for this book!! highly recommend this book!

Hi readers

So about two weeks ago or so, I finished Eleanor & Park ( I know, face palm ) and it was AMAZING. I loved how the book took place in a non-modern setting and that the book was very realistic. It actually had a great impact on me because the book implies that "love is not all about the physical attributes but it is about seeing beyond what the eyes allow you to see." For those who have not read Eleanor & Park yet, I highly recommend this book to all of you because it is beautiful.

So here's the summary: (It's nothing much since I do not want to spoil anything for you)
Eleanor, a girl with curly red hair and chubby cheeks, rode a bus and sat beside Park, a guy who is fond of music and comic books. Their interest in each other started with a single comic book then they started having quick conversations during their bus trips to and from school. Could Eleanor & Park's friendship develop into something more despite certain circumstances?

After reading Eleanor & Park, I read the burn for burn series & the young elites and they were both beautifully made. I would be posting a review up soon. Last November 23, I was been given an opportunity to be able to meet one of my favorite YA authors. Marie Lu, the author of the legend series and the young elites, was super kind and sweet. I am more than grateful to have been given this opportunity.

Comment below your thoughts on Eleanor & Park and what you're currently reading.

Have a wonderful night

The Young Elites Blog Tour

Series: (The Young Elites #1)
Author: Marie Lu
Publisher: Penguin Young Readers Group
Publication Date: October 7th, 2014

Synopsis:

I am tired of being used, hurt, and cast aside.

Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites.

Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all.

Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. This secret sect of Young Elites seeks out others like them before the Inquisition Axis can. But when the Daggers find Adelina, they discover someone with powers like they’ve never seen.

Adelina wants to believe Enzo is on her side, and that Teren is the true enemy. But the lives of these three will collide in unexpected ways, as each fights a very different and personal battle. But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her.

It is my turn to use. My turn to hurt.

First Sentence: "I’m going to die tomorrow morning ."

My thoughts:

The Young Elites is a dark and heavy read. It was a whole lot different than Legend. But it's Marie Lu, she can write anything badass and mind-blowing. I didn't really know what to expect reading the book but it had again exceeded my expectations. Who could not love the world's Marie Lu creates? It's fictional yes, but it has that element to pull you into it and then you can't seem to resurface again.

The characters. Adelina, poor little  Adelina.  She is too different from June in such a way that she's broken in all ways June isn't. She has darkness in her and yet we accept her for who she is. We understand her. I can even connect to her personally. She's different from all the heroines in a book that I've read in a book. She's not kind of these goody sweet kind of girls. She has this cruel and brutal past that made her who she is and that kind of makes her the most intriguing. I'm glad Marie Lu made her the star in this book and not the one she was really planning to. The Protagonists, the antagonist, the supporting characters, they are all so different from each other and yet we can understand all their connections and their role in the story.

“You have goodness in your heart,” he says. “But your darkness overwhelms it all; your desire to hurt, destroy, and avenge is more powerful than your desire to love, help, and light the way."

The plot is pretty well orchestrated that I can't seem to guess what's happening next. In some books I'm like, "No surprise there." but in TYE I didn't even realize that a plot twist just happened. It is also fast paced, you can read this book down in one sitting. There are just some chapters that are a bit medium-paced than the others. There is a bit of romance in the story, yes but it's not the main thing here. The main thing is Adelina and her self struggles. you won't get lost in the focus of the plot.

Also, you know you're tired of weaklings if you like the crazy villain in the story. Just like Teren Santoro, of all the characters in TYE he intrigues me the most. I have a different feeling about him. Some people might think he's all evil but I think there's more of him than we really know.

“You don’t belong with them, Adelina Amouteru,” he says. “You belong with me.”

Most of all I know you'd all love the other characters like  Rafaelle, Violetta, Lucent, and the others.

If I learned a lesson in this book, it's pretty much  about accepting the darkness in you to balance the world and not lose yourself in the process. That we all have reasons and motives for what we do. That we shouldn't let anyone use us but ourselves alone. That who we think we are might not be the real us. It's not all about fighting that can really save from everything but acceptance.

Again Marie Lu wrote a book that's beyond comprehensible ideas and unwritten thoughts. If you're a YA fantasy lover, put hold your other books and read this first. It will leave you real numb and wanting for more.

Rating: 5/5 stars

My mom and The Fault in her Stars

If you haven't read The Fault in our Stars yet, I advised you to stop reading this at this moment.

I'm the kind of person who really loves to share my favorite books with my mom, because she's not really fond of reading like me, I'm just telling her the story and of those books that I really liked is The Fault in our Stars.

Don't judge me but my favorite scene in TFIOS is when Hazel and Augustus had sex for the first time because it's just so funny how they're having a hard time because of Hazel's oxygen. Apparently, that part is what my mom remembered the most.

So while we were watching TFIOS on the cinema, the part where Hazel is speaking on Augustus' eulogy I'm almost crying then my mom said
Mom: Buntis sya diba? (She's pregnant right?)
With that I started crying so hard while laughing (I'm literally a mess). My mom is so surprised when Augustus died and she said
Mom: Pano na yung baby? (How about the baby?)
I love her so much and I let her believe that Hazel has her own happy
ending. But, after a few moments I admit that there's no baby and it's just all became a laugh.

This is probably a long share but have you ever experienced that false knowledge about a book? Let's talk about it.

Hi guys so I just finished Champion by Marie lu around a week ago or so & It was Amazing ♥ I loved the whole series so much, it hurts that it's over. The whole series was wrapped up nicely ( won't talk about the ending to avoid spoilers ). For those of you who haven't read the Legend series, you should totally read it because it's such an action packed & fast paced read  The plot is very unique & I seriously loved the timeline. I LOVED everything about it ( She's coming here on November 22 at Cebu & November 23 at Manila, I'm so excited shocks )

So I'm currently reading Enders by Lissa Price, another AMAZING book. This is the sequel to the Starters. The whole book is so interesting from the characters to the plot & all. Next week, I'm going to start reading books that follow the Halloween theme ( can't wait ) I think I'll start with the "Miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children" series, what are your thoughts about this series?

Comment below what you're currently reading and your thoughts about the Legend and Starters series.

BOOK PEEVES 101

Hey guys this is Princess. I just want to share one of my book peeves

book peeves; things that you hate in a book or reading (kinda like pet peeve but for books)

So one of my book peeves is, names. Cause I'm not really good with names, and I'm having a hard time finishing a book wherein there are so many names that even the not-so-important characters are always being mentioned. Some example of this type of  books are Game of Thrones, Battle Royale, Under the Dome.

Are you feeling the same way? Share your book peeves also.

Sunday, October 5, 2014

Hey guys I'm Princess (your new co-blogger) since October is the 'Month of Spooks'.
Let's challenge ourselves to read more Horror, Suspense, Thriller and  Mystery genre of books.

To start off the month, I'm starting on

Battle Royale, a high-octane thriller about senseless youth violence, is one of Japan's best-selling and most controversial novels. As part of a ruthless program by the totalitarian government, ninth-grade students are taken to a small isolated island with a map, food, and various weapons. Forced to wear special collars that explode when they break a rule, they must fight each other for three days until only one "winner" remains. The elimination contest becomes the ultimate in must-see reality television. A Japanese pulp classic available in English for the first time, Battle Royale is a potent allegory of what it means to be young and survive in today's dog-eat-dog world. The first novel by small-town journalist Koushun Takami, it went on to become an even more notorious film by 70-year-old gangster director Kinji Fukusaku.

How about you? What are you reading right now?
